El Paso County Community Services Department will be implementing a Trail Access Program in July of 2022. As part of the new program, the county will be acquiring two (2) off-road mobility vehicles with the generous support from The Independence Center. Terrain Hoppers are the ultimate off-road mobility power scooter designed to provide access to adventure, making the inaccessible, accessible to individuals with mobility limitations. This program will be offered at no-cost to participants.
As part of this program, the Nature Centers will be training volunteers to accompany participants on their trail journeys in the Terrain Hopper vehicles. Bear Creek Nature Center will be offering morning and afternoon Terrain Hopper reservations on Thursdays and Saturdays from July 26 through October 29. Fountain Creek Nature Center will be offering morning and afternoon Terrain Hopper reservations on Fridays and Saturdays from July 26 through October 29. Volunteers will help us enable an underserved audience to have access to trails and natural resources that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience.
Trainings will include topics such as Terrain Hopper operation, assisting with participant transfers, customer service and program etiquette, and pre-determined trail routes. Pre-registration and complete application required for training classes.
