Bear Creek Dog Park

1. Sediment Removal Dog Park Pool Structures
Project involves removing sediment from concrete pool structures in the Bear Creek Dog Park. This is a labor intensive project requiring low skill level. The project will require approximately 4-6 hours with 8-10 volunteers.

2. Dog waste removal
Feel free to aid county staff with waste removal at Bear Creek Dog Park. With the high amount of use and proximity to Bear Creek, it is important that we remove all dog waste to prevent contamination within the watershed. This project is moderately labor intensive and requires low skill level.

Bear Creek Regional Park

1.  Reclamation of social trails
Reclamation and restoration of social trails within Bear Creek Park. Project consists of slashing, raking, reseeding and installing signage. Project is moderately labor intensive and requires a low skill level.

2. Refurbish pavilions, restrooms and sign posts
Clean up and rehabilitate some of the many park amenities and facilities. Project consists of scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, painting and staining. Project is moderately labor intensive and requires low skill level.

3. Landscape Renovations
Project involves planting trees, shrubs, and perennials to help beautify our Park and to promote sustainable habitat for pollinating insects. Project is highly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

4. Noxious weed control
The goal of this project is to control the mullein and other noxious weeds around the Bear Creek Nature Center by cutting the seed heads off in August or September of each year. Volunteers will utilize hand pruners to cut off the seed heads and bagging for disposal. Encourage volunteers to bring pruners and gloves. Project can accommodate any size group. Project is of low labor intensity and requires low skill level.

Black Forest Regional Park

1. Reclamation of social trails
Reclamation and revegetation of social trails within the park. Project consists of slashing, raking, removing noxious weeds, reseeding and installing signage. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

2. Refurbish pavilions, bulletin boards, restrooms, hand rails, sign posts and 105 trailhead.
Clean up and rehabilitate some of the many park amenities and facilities. Project consists of scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, painting and staining. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

3. Rocky Mountain Field Institute will coordinate volunteer events this summer in the forest. Please register at www.rmfi.org.

4. Build an Information Kiosk

5. Mullein Control: This project goal is to control mullein within the park by cutting seed heads off in August or September of each year. Volunteers will utilize hand pruners to cut off the seed heads and bagging for disposal. Encourage volunteers to bring pruners and gloves. Project can accommodate any size group. Project is of low labor intensity and requires low skill level.

Black Forest Regional Park Section 16

1. Performing fire mitigation along trail
Removing small vegetation and “dog hair” along the four mile trail corridor for fire mitigation and forest health. Project consists of removing and chipping of smaller vegetation using loppers and hand saws. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires moderate skill level.

2. Trail signage
Installing right-of-way and/or nature signage. Project consists of installing personally constructed or County provided signage on metal posts throughout the trail corridor. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires moderate skill level.

3. Install memorial benches
Installing a concrete pad, assembling a metal bench, installing the bench on the pad and constructing a short connector trail. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.  This would be a great Eagle Scout Project.

Ceresa Park

1. General clean-up of park grounds
Rake up leaves, pick up trash and any debris, and minor tree branch and basic pruning. This could be a medium size group project done throughout the park area.  Requires low skill level and is labor intensive.

Cottonwood Meadows Area of Fountain Creek Park

1. General clean-up of the area

County Fairgrounds

1. Fair Week Volunteers
The County Fair has many areas where we could use volunteer support ranging from event
support, contest support, set-up, and event ushers to assisting our creative arts program.

2. Fair Drainage Improvements
The county fairground has a few areas in need of drainage improvements. This will include moving dirt that has washed out, back to its original location as well as the installation of culverts. Project will require 5-8 hours of labor. This project is moderately labor intensive and requires a low skill level.

Crews Gulch Trail between Ceresa Park and Widefield Park

1. General clean-up of the area
Project is to clean-up trash and debris in the area. Clean-up trash and debris in the waterway under the railroad track overpasses and Hwy 85/87. Paint over graffiti on concrete walls. Rubber boots will be needed for work in the waterway drainage ditch area.

Fountain Creek Regional Park

1. Trail Maintenance; cut back overgrown vegetation from trails

2. Refurbish pavilions, restrooms and sign posts
Clean up and rehabilitate some of the many park amenities and facilities. Project consists of scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, painting and staining. Project is moderately labor intensive and requires low skill level.

3. Find a group to maintain doggy bag dispensers for new dog park (mostly refilling with used grocery bags).

Fox Run Dog Park

1. Clean up events
Organize and supervise dog waste clean-up events at the park. Project consists of organizing event, acquiring tools and supplies, securing advertising and sponsorships and possible fund raising. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires moderate skill level.

2. Trail Construction
Resurfacing walking trails in the park. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

3. Replace railroad ties along trails and parking lots.

Fox Run Regional Park

1. Refurbish pavilions, bulletin boards, restrooms, walk bridge, warming hut, gazebo and sign posts
Clean up and rehabilitate some of the many park amenities and facilities. Project consists of scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, painting and staining. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

2. Clean stream and ponds
Clean out and remove debris and vegetation from the ponds and the stream that flows between the two. Project consists of wading into water and stream to remove debris. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

3. Install memorial benches
Installing a concrete pad, assembling a metal bench, installing the bench on the pad and constructing a short connector trail. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level. This would be a great Eagle Scout Project.

Homestead Ranch Regional Park

1. Staining of fencing and bridge railing
Project requires ability to prepare surfaces and brush, roll or spray stain onto surfaces. Project will require approximately 3-4 hours for a group of 10-20 people. Low labor intensity and a low to moderate skill level required. All materials will be supplied.

2. Pine sapling thinning
Cutting of sapling thickets to promote healthier stands of pines. Project requires ability to use hand pruners and hand saws. Project is very adaptable to any size group.  Encourage volunteers to bring pruning loppers and hand saws. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires moderate skill level.  Other than tools, no other materials are required. (FREE SAPLINGS)

3. Mullein Control

Paint Mines

1. Paint picnic table and create a gravel pad for table
Prepare and paint the picnic table and install timbers to create a pad and fill with gravel.  Four to Six volunteers for approximately 5-6 hours.  Materials will be provided. Project is of low to moderate labor intensity and requires low to moderate skill level.

Pineries Open Space

1. Trail construction in the forest
Install tier I, II and IV trails throughout the property as per the park Master Plan. Project consists of proper design and construction of sustainable trails. Project is moderately labor intensive and requires high skill level.

Rainbow Falls Recreation Area

1. Trash/noxious weed removal
Volunteers are needed to aid county staff will mechanical weed removal and trash clean-up. This project is slightly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

2. Trail restoration/social trail closure
Volunteers needed for routine trail maintenance and restoration efforts. There are many social trails in the recreation area that need our attention as well. This project is labor intensive and requires a moderate skill level.

Rock Island Regional Trail

1. Bench pads
There are several benches along the trail, and access to them could be improved by installing pads around each. Volunteer(s) could seek donations for the timbers and stakes, and parks would supply the trail base infill.  This would be a great Eagle Scout Project. Project is moderate to highly labor intensive and requires low to moderate skill level.

2.  Expanded trash cleanup
Currently sections of the trail and trailhead are adopted, but due to the size of the easement, an expanded cleanup would be beneficial.  Due to the 9 miles of trail, this project is ideal for very large groups broken into smaller team but may be adapted to any size group. Materials will be provided. Project may be moderately labor intensive due to the amount of walking and requires a low skill level.

3. Trail Edge and Tree Pruning
Project consists of trimming back shrubs along the trail.  Eight to ten volunteers for 4-6 hours. Project requires ability to use hand pruners and hand saws. Project is very adaptable to any size group.  Will encourage volunteers to bring pruning loppers and hand saws. Project is slightly labor intensive and requires a low to moderate skill level.  Other than tools, no other materials are required. Materials will be supplied.

Santa Fe Regional Trail

1. Replace railroad ties along trails and parking lots.

2. Replace and install water bars for trail erosion.

3. Clear bridge at low water crossing
Clear debris and vegetation from under the  low water crossing bridge on the Air Force Academy. Project consists of wading into fairly deep water and cutting away/pulling out trapped debris from around the bridge caissons created by beaver work upstream. Project is moderately labor intensive and requires moderate skill level.

4. Install railroad tie steps, providing access to New Santa Fe Trail (from new residential subdivision along Old Denver Hwy)  Project is highly labor intensive and requires low skill level.

Stratmoor Hills Park

1. Landscape work
Install edging, landscape fabric and decorative rock. Move the rock with wheelbarrows and spread to cover fabric. This project requires low skill level and is moderately labor intensive.

Stratmoor Valley Trailhead Park

1. General spring clean-up of the entire park grounds
Rake up leaves, pick up trash and any debris, minor tree branch and base pruning, minor maintenance repairs to structures and fences, pull weeds and minor pruning to plant material in the plant beds. This could be a small to medium size group project done throughout the park area.  Requires low skill level and is moderately labor intensive.

Widefield Community Park

1. Spring clean-up of the entire park
General spring clean-up of the entire park grounds. Rake up leaves and pine needles, pick up trash and any debris. Pull weeds if needed; minor tree branch, bush and shrub pruning and minor maintenance repairs to structures, fences, display case, restroom building and memorial gazebo as needed. This could be a larger group project done throughout the park area.  Requires low skill level and is labor intensive.

2. Tunnel and drainage ditch clean-up and painting
Clean the tunnel under Fontaine Blvd. leading to McCrae Reservoir and paint concrete walls to cover graffiti. Clean up the drainage ditch debris and prune tree sucker growth. This project requires low skill level and is moderately labor intensive.

3. McCrae Reservoir
Prep and repaint Pavilion. This project requires low skill level and is moderately labor intensive.

4. Memorial
Prep and repaint Pavilion. This project requires low skill level and is moderately labor intensive.
